Genie
Genie was sculpted by Lynn Fraley and introduced in earthenware ceramic in 1999. She represents a newborn filly getting to her feet for the first time. She is a small 1:9 scale, or in plastic model horse terminology, Traditional scale. Genie was a one-mold edition; that is, pieces were made until the mold wore out and a new mold was not made. Usually, that means about twenty to maybe thirty pieces. Genie was produced as an "artist split"; that is, Joanie made the molds, cast the pieces, and received half of the run to finish and sell as payment for her services, with the sculpting artist receiving the other half. The majority of Genies were sold via sealed bid auction. Click on the pictures below for larger views.
This black pinto Genie was a collaboration between Joanie, Lesli Kathman and Lynn Fraley. Lesli drew the pattern, Joanie did the airbrushing, and Lynn did the final detailing.
Lesli also designed the pattern on the pinto baby above.
