Limerick
Limerick was sculpted by Kristina Lucas Francis and introduced in earthenware ceramic in 1997. She represents an Irish cob and is 1:32 or Breyer "Stablemate scale"; pieces of around this size were marketed as "Thumb" scale by The Pour Horse. Joanie had originally planned to produce the run in bay, but the black roached mane proved impractical to paint on a large scale. Joanie then planned to make the run in grey, finishing eight pieces, but when she made a piece in chestnut for a friend she realized the color was both pretty and producible. All together 194 chestnut pieces were made, with three distinct variations. The earliest pieces had a dark tail tip, pieces in the middle of the run had a flaxen tail tip and pieces towards the end of the run had darker shading on their backs for added contrast and richness. All variations were produced in large numbers and are relatively easy to find. In addition, 28 bisques were produced. Click on the pictures below for larger views.
